Track: Cascade Saddle Route.

Otago Conservancy Location: Matukituki Valley near Wanaka, Mt Aspiring National Park, southern South Island Access: West Matukituki Valley, Wanaka or Rees Dart Valleys, Glenorchy Description: Alpine experience essential. 4 - 5 day alpine crossing. Steep climb. Approx. 60 km. DOC contact: Wanaka: +64 3 443 7660 Comment: Aspiring Hut and Dart Hut. Leaflet available.

Track: Copland Pass. Canterbury Conservancy Location: Aoraki/Mt Cook, Westland Tai Poutini National Parks, Southern Alps Access: Copland Valley West Coast of Mt Cook Village, 325 km south west of Christchurch Description: Alpine experience essential. An alpine crossing with crampons and ice axe needed all year. Steep, loose rock, hard ice in summer. Track: Copland Valley (Welcome Flat).

West Coast Tai Poutini Conservancy Location: Westland Tai Poutini National Park, west coast of the South Island Access: Off SH6 at the Karangarua River south of Fox Glacier Description: Overnight medium to hard tramp to Welcome Flat Hut and return. 6 to 8 hours one way DOC contacts: Haast: +64 3 750 0809 Franz: +64 3 752 0796 Comment: Welcome Flat is a serviced hut and Douglas Rock is a standard hut.
