NewZealandAtoZ reviews; Otago Farmers Market and Dunedin Railway Station

Every Saturday morning rain or shine, from 8:00am – 12:30pm, the Dunedin Railway Station north car-park is transformed into a bustling market place, The Otago Farmers Market.

We arrived at the market and found a metered park just over the road, but according to their website there is "FREE parking" right next to the market off Anzac Ave. The Dunedin Railway Station is a short walk from the centre of town if you decided to walk but remember to bring your shopping bag.

At the gate there was a lady in a mobile kitchen who was the Otago Farmers Markets Chef, Alison Lambert matching vendor’s products with a cooking display. An easy walk around followed to see all sorts of great fare from beer to black eggs, apples and cheese there is also an interesting place to put a line of stalls, on the Railway platform.

There was a good amount of people, so it did not feel too packed and the size of the market was not overwhelming.

The smells of fresh baked goods make you feel hungry so maybe this is your place for a morning feed and cup of tea.

The market looked to have only high quality vendors with quality goods.

If we lived in Dunedin it would be a weekly visit to stock up the cupboards.

While here we took an opportunity to look around the historic Dunedin Railway Station. Much of its ground floor is now used as a restaurant, and the upper floor is home to both the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame and the Otago Art Society.

“One of the World’s greatest train trips” as said by The Taieri Gorge train company also leaves from this historic place.

Here is a panorama view of the main foyer of the Dunedin Railway Station.

It is a great walk back in time and a must see while in Dunedin.

Enjoy both the market and the station
